Anantnag: Residents of Pandit colony Vessu in Qazigund area are expressing anger against the Relief and Rehabilitation department which has sought action against Kashmiri Pandits for occupying under construction quarters.
Talking to ‘Kashmir Vision’, the residents said that during heavy snowfall the prefab quarters in which they are putting up started leaking and during these freezing conditions they felt unsafe in these structures and were forced to occupy the under construction structures.
“We formally wrote an application to DC Anantnag to seek permission to shift in these under construction buildings so that we can save ourselves during this chilling cold, however, he said that granting permission is in the domain of Relief and Rehabilitation department and he will talk to them in this regard,” they said.
“On returning back from DC office, few BJP leaders including Darakshah Andrabi and Aabid Khan called Divisional commissioner in this regard, whose reply was that during disaster in whatever way you can save your lives, do it and we shifted to under construction building which is also built for us,” they added.
“After remaining there for sometime, the Relief and Rehabilitation department has sought action against us for illegally occupying under construction building and has asked SHO Qazigund to register FIR against us,” they said.
The families alleged that the relief and rehab department has not bothered to take our plight into consideration.
The families have been protesting since then and have demanded intervention of LG Manoj Sinha in this regard.
They said that department should have issued notice in our favour to vacate building immediately or action will be taken but they directly sought action against us which is sheer injustice.
The pundits said that if the building is constructed for putting them there, then how few corporators and Sarpanches are living in the same building without any permission.
“Our quarters are fully damaged and are leaking everywhere,” they said, adding that instead of helping us the Department has sought action against us.
After protesting against the Relief and Rehabilitation department our salaries were also kept with held, they said.
“We have met advisor Baseer Khan in this regard who assured help and constituted a committee in this regard,” the protesting families said.
