Since many years health centre operates from rented accommodation

‘New building shelters gamblers, drug addicts’

Kulgam: A Health Centre is operating from a rented accommodation from last two decades in Akhran-Nowpora Village of Kulgam district and the newly constructed building is not being utilized giving a field day for unscrupulous elements.
Locals said that in 2005, the authorities started construction of the Primary Health Center building in the Akhran and it was completed just after few years and handed over to the Health department.
Since then around 12 years have passed but authorities have failed to shift it to the new building and the health centers continues to function in dilapidated three roomed accommodation.
“There is no place for doctors and patients to sit,” said Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident, adding that, the new hospital building is being used by the gamblers and drug addicts.
“It is beyond our imagination that why the center is not being shifted to new building,” said Gulzar Ahmad, another local resident, adding that immoral activities can be spotted everyday inside the building.
Locals said that in absence of proper infrastructure, locals are forced to visit district hospital for even minor ailments.
They requested authorities to shift the health facility to the new building at an earliest so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
Chief Medical officer Kulgam, Dr Fazil Kochak said that new building suffered some damage in 2014 floods and we have informed the higher ups in this regard several times.
He added that very minor repair work is required to be carried out in the new building and hopefully it will be done soon.
