Baramulla: Villagers here in north Kashmir’s Barmaulla district damaged electric meters after officials declined to pay heed to their grievances about the inflated bills and non-availability of electricity.
Eyewitnesses said that over 200 protesting locals from village Shrakwara Baramulla hit the roads and staged protest by blocking the road leading to Puthkha. The protesters disrupted traffic, raised slogans against Power Development Department alleging that despite not getting electricity, they receive inflated bills.
“There are pesky power cuts. PDD doesn’t follow electricity schedule and never dispatches bills in line with the electric meters,” the protesters said.
The commuters faced a lot of problem due to protest while in a bid to restore the traffic, Assistant Executive Engineer, Tehsildar Wagoora and BDO Wagoora rushed to spot.
They pacify the protesters with the assurance that matter will be taken up with the Department. The locals demanded reduction in electric bills but the officers didn’t oblige to their demand and asked them to give an application that will be forwarded to the Department.
Visibly angry protesters rushed back to the village and damaged electric meters. (KNT)
