Anantnag: Residents of Arabal area of Dooru in south Kashmir’s Anantnag staged a protest against PHE department for failing to provide drinking water to the area.
Eyewitnesses said that the locals blocked Achabal-Anantnag road leading to a long and messy traffic jam on the road for hours together.
They said that the protestors raised slogans against authorities for failing to provide drinking water supply to the area.
Locals said that they have been facing acute shortage of drinking water from the past one year but no attention is being provided by the authorities towards this grave issue.
They said they were getting water supply for few minutes but from last one month the area is being deprived of that limited water supply as well.
The protestors said that they met several officials of the Jal Shakti department including the Executive Engineer, Assistant Executive Engineer, besides the SDM and Tehsildar in this regard who assured that they will get water supply but on ground nothing happened.
“Because of the cold response of the authorities, we had no other option than to protest and block the road to press for our demand,” Abdul Salam, a local resident said.
He said that they have been knocking the doors of various officials since the last one year but their repeated pleas are falling deaf on deaf ears.
Notably, the protest continued for more than a hour and protest was called off after a team of officials pacified the protestors that their demands will be fulfilled soon.
