Anantnag: The residents of Panzath village in Qazigund area have been reeling under darkness for the past 10 days, leaving them to face the winter chill without any heating arrangements.
The aggrieved residents said that they have had no electricity for a last 10 days, as the transformer installed in the area has developed technical snag disrupting the power supply in the area.
The locals said that the transformer develops technical snag frequently, which clearly shows that it’s not sufficient to cater to the electricity needs of the area.
The repeated damage of existing transformer not only compounds the problems of people but also causes hardships to the students.
They said that the transformer is at Kulgam workshop and the locals have visited the place from the past several days now but the technical staff posted there has been assuring them of repairing the damaged transformer but so far nothing has been done.
The locals have appealed the authorities to repair the damaged transformer at an earliest. The residents also threatened to stage protests incase their demands are not met.
They also demanded intervention of higher ups and said that necessary steps should be taken to ensure scheduled power supply to the area.
When contacted, Assistant Executive Engineer PDD Sub Division Qazigund Mohammed Yousuf said that the transformer is being repaired and it will be installed again within two days.
