Anantnag: The Maternity and Child Care Hospital (MCCH) in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district is facing an acute shortage of doctors due to which patient care is taking a hit.
Official sources said that the hospital requires services of at least 40 medicos but presently only 18 doctors are posted at the hospital.
They said that during the last one year around 15 doctors were either promoted or transferred but not a single doctor was sent as a replacement against those who left the place.
Interestingly, the government recruited 459 doctors few months back but no one was posted in the hospital which is in dire need of doctors.
Insiders in the hospital said that the lack of staff hits the patient care and the patients have to bear the brunt of the shortage of medicos and other technical staff.
Pertinently, MCCH Anantnag is not only faced with the shortage of the doctors but the lack of space in the hospital is also making the lives of patients miserable.
“The main building of the hospital has been declared unsafe by fire and emergency services department few years back but still the authorities have not made alternate arrangements so as to avoid any major disaster,” sources said.
Medical Superintendent Dr Mirji Andrabi acknowledged that there is dearth of doctors at the hospital.
“I have been informing the higher ups regularly about the issue and hopefully it will be addressed soon,” he said.
