Trade body comes to rescue of tourists

Srinagar: Nigeen Tourist Traders Association (NTTA) has joined hands with SEOC for delivery of emergency rations and medicines for the needy houseboat owners and tourists due to freezing of water bodies, a statement issued here said.
With the minimum temperature recorded in Srinagar that has gone below freezing point and touched below -8°C. There are reports that many water bodies have frozen and it has been observed that people or tourists staying in houseboats have been facing lot of difficulties as moving on the thin layer of ice could be very risky.
Keeping it in view (NTTA) in collaboration with Kashmir Welfare Trust has joined hands with State Emergency Operation Centre to provide assistance by way of providing Food-kits and emergency Medicines to those (whether locals or tourists) who are staying in houseboats and are unable to move due to the sub zero temperatures and freezing of waters in Dal Lake & Nigeen Lake.

NTTA applauds the efforts Aamir Ali, Nodal officer State Emergency Operation Centre Srinagar and his team for their dedication and steps taken towards the safety of the people in this regard, the statement said.
NTTA appeals houseboat owners, tourists and people living around the peripheries of waterbodies to take all necessary precautions as prescribed by State Emergency Operation Centre and follow it in letter and spirit as the safety comes first.
