Pulwama: The residents of Nai Basti in Sofigund area of Aripal Tral and Takya Mohalla Tahab Pulwama in southern Kashmir are facing immense hardships due to non availability of electricity in the area.
The residents of Sofigund Tral said that authorities had installed a transformer under some scheme some eight months back however, the transformer is yet to be made functional.
They said that the transformer was sanctioned after frequent power cuts in the area due to heavy load, but now over eight months have passed and authorities are yet to make it functional.
The existing transformer has heavy load due to which we are facing serious power outrage in the area, they added.
The residents of Takya Mohalla Tahab said that there is no electric facility in their area even after installation of transformer and transmission lines.
According to the locals, the transmission lines were installed three months back but the transformer has not been made operational yet.
“We face immense hardships due to non availability of electricity as our children are not able to study well and prepare for exams. Their education is getting affected badly”, locals said.
Residents of Sofigund and Tahab requested authorities to look into the matter and make the transformers functional at an earliest.
Meanwhile, when contacted Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Pulwama S. A Raina said that the authorities have been directed to make these transformers functional at an earliest.
He said that the department has to receive some equipments for the transformer from outside, and assured that installed transformers will be made functional after twenty days.
