Reopen Anganwadi centers
The Anganwadi Centers were shut due to the Covid-19 pandemic across the country. Recently, the Supreme Court has directed States and Union Territories to take a decision to recommence those centers situated outside containment zones on or before January 31.
The Court mentioned that the Union Ministry for Women and Child Development had by its guidance note dated November 11, 2020 “permitted all the States and Union Territories to open Anganwadi Centres” and that it is was now “the responsibility of the States/Union Territories to take a decision for opening” them.
Punjab and Rajasthan have already opened their Anganwadi centers. The Anganwadi Centers provide important services like pre-schooling, vaccination, medicines, nutritional meals, and have also conducted various awareness programs to ensure the physical and mental well being of pregnant women and children.
These services are playing a vital role in the underprivileged groups of society. The Center and State Governments should initiate to reopen the Anganwadi centers by following all safeguards.
