Six drug peddlers held, cash seized: Police

Srinagar: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested six drug peddlers from Awantipora, Budgam, Baramulla and Ganderbal.
“Huge quantity of psychotropic substance and contraband substances recovered from their possession. Besides, cash amount of Rs 2.40 lacs was also seized,” police said in a statement issued here.
In Awantipora, police said that officers from Police Station Tral at a checkpoint established at Gunchocha Crossing Tral intercepted a vehicle Grand i-10 bearing registration number JK03H-6312 driven by Owais Ashraf of Trali Payeen.
“During checking, officers were able to recover 06 bottles of Codeine phosphate and 270 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon from his possession,” police said.
Meanwhile, officers from PS Tral at a checkpoint established at Lurgam crossing intercepted one person identified as Shabir Ahmad Ganie of Lurgam Tral. During checking, officers were able to recover 3Kgs of grinded Cannabis and 300 grams of Charas like substance from his possession, police said.
“Both the drug peddlers have been arrested and shifted to PS Tral where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized. Accordingly, cases vide FIR numbers 02/2021 and 03/2021 under the relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Tral and further investigation initiated,” police said.
In Budgam, police said that officers from Police Station Budgam at a checkpoint established at Mohanpora Ompora intercepted a vehicle Maruti-800 bearing registration number JK04B-4162 with two persons on board, who have been identified as Umer Gaffar Lone of Humhama and Aqib Wani of Mohanpora Ompora.
“During checking, the officers were able to recover 24 bottles of Codeine Phosphate, 150 Spasmoproxyvon plus Capsules and 99 tablets of Alprazolam. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Budgam where they remain in custody. Accordingly, police said a case under FIR number 06/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered and further investigation initiated,” police said.
In Baramulla, police said officers from Police Station Baramulla at a checkpoint established near Petrol Pump Khawajabagh intercepted one person identified as Amjid Hussain of Delina Baramulla. “During checking, offices were able to recover 91 bottles of Codine Phosphate from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Baramulla where he remains in custody. Accordingly, a case under FIR number 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Baramulla and further investigation into the matter has been initiated,” police said.
Similarly in Ganderbal, police said officers at a checkpoint established at Peerpora Ganderbal intercepted one person identified as Gulzar Mohammad Saeed resident of Narayanbagh Shadipora.
“During checking officers were able to recover 900 grams of bung powder like substance wrapped in Polythene from his possession, besides officers also seized cash amount of Rs 2.40 lacs from his possession. He has been arrested and shifted to PS Ganderbal where he remains in custody. In this regard, a case vide FIR No. 03/2021 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Ganderbal and further investigation has been initiated,” police said.
Meanwhile, police urged people to come forward with any information regarding drug peddlers in their neighbourhood. Persons found indulging in drug peddling will be dealt as per law, police said.
