Anantnag: The auditorium at Govt Degree College (Boys) Anantnag collapsed on Friday with officials citing the heavy snowfall as the reason. However, DDC Anantnag has ordered an enquiry to ascertain the facts.
Sources said that an auditorium which was constructed by R&B department at an estimated cost of 7 crore and was inaugurated just two years back collapsed all of a sudden.
Interestingly, the building collapsed on Friday morning and a huge noise was noticed in the college campus.
Locals said that thankfully no one was hurt during the incident as the college campus was closed for winter vacations.
“If 7 crores were spent on a building just few years back, how can it collapse within such short span of time. It clearly shows that sub standard material has been used while construction and some compromises too have been ignored by the construction agency,” sources added.
Locals, staff as well as students of GDC Anantnag have demanded that matter must be investigated and action must be taken against the officials involved in it.
Meanwhile, DDC Anantnag K K Sidha who visited to the spot on Friday said that it was an important asset of south Kashmir and we were using it for multiple programmes. He said that it is a big loss.
“The estimated cost of the building was over six Crores and how it collapsed needs to be enquired,” he said, adding that a committee will be constituted to enquire the matter besides that administrative secretary of R&B department will also be asked to have technical evaluation of the building, he said.
He added that it is a sheer negligence and whosoever will be found responsible, he will have to face music and exemplary punishment.
Meanwhile, as per an order issued here, a team of officers headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sheikh Ghulam Hassan with Exens R&B and PMGSY Anantnag and Representative of Principal GDC (Boys) Anantnag as the other members has been constituted.
The team has been directed to make an on-spot visit to arrive at the facts on ground, refer to records and seek expert assistance if the need arises. The team has been asked to submit a detailed enquiry report within 15 days for further course of action, an order issuer here said.
