Kulgam: A vital been bridge which was damaged during 2014 devastating floods in Yaripora belt of Kulgam district is still awaiting reconstruction.
Locals from Dembdello village of Yaripora belt said that over dozen vital bridges got damaged in south Kashmir during floods, however, reconstruction of all these bridges has been completed except the one that connects Dembdello village.
They said that since 2014 to 2017 nobody came here, however, after hectic efforts by locals the PMGSY department decided to construct the bridge.
Since then work on the bridge is going on at snail’s pace due to which it has missed many deadlines for completion of works.
“This bridge connects dozens of villages with district headquarters and national highway but in absence of any bridge the locals are suffering a lot,” Shakeel Ahmad, a local resident said.
He said that commuters are forced to take longer routes for more than half a decade now costing them both time and money.
The locals requested higher ups to look into the matter and complete the bridge at an earliest so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
An official of PMGSY department said that due to lock down after abrogation of article 370 and later breakout of a pandemic the civil works on the project got delayed.
He said that within two to three months the bridge will be completed and dedicated for the people of the area.
