Residents stage protest against power cuts in Sopore

Sopore: Inhabitants of Mohalla Sheikh Sahib Chinkipora Sopore Thursday staged a protest against the PDD, alleging that the department has failed to repair a damaged transformer in the area.
Reports said that scores of people including women assembled outside their locality at Chinkipora Sopore and staged a protest demonstration over the prevailing power crisis.
While blocking the Sopore-Bandipora road for some time, which brought the traffic to standstill, the protesters raised slogans against PDD department and said that they the officials failed to repair the damaged transformer and restore electricity in the area.
“We are facing huge inconvenience and hardships in this harsh winter in absence of electricity,” Bashir Ahmad one of residents said.
He said that the transformer in the area developed some snag two weeks back but still the department has failed to repair it on time and restore electricity in the area.
He said that the locals visited the local PDD office many times but they ignoring the sufferings of the people and took no steps to ensure that the transformer is installed on time.
The protesters told that if their demand will not be redressed at the earliest will go for bigger protest against the PDD department. Meanwhile, officials in PDD department Sopore assured that the genuine demands of the residents will be addressed at an earliest.
