Pulwama: Sanctioned three years back under the Prime Minister’s Development Package (PMDP) the receiving station in Pampore town is awaiting completion.
Locals said that the public continues to reel under unscheduled power cuts as the work on 10 Mega Volt Ampere (MVA) receiving station in Pampore is still incomplete even after three years after it was announced.
They said that soon after its sanctioning, the executing firm Krishna Electric Industries (KEI) started work on the project, however, objections were raised by Municipal committee Pampore who were demanding compensation for the fencing they had managed to construct around the land.
“Civil society Pampore managed to settle the issue between two departments after one year and later work was started again in summer last year,” said Tariq Ahmad a local resident.
He said that as work was going on when centre abrogated the special status of J&K and soon after that work came to a full halt.
“Later Covid-19 pandemic broke out and work on the project stopped again,” he added.
“Now work is going on and authorities must complete it as soon as possible as the project will surely bring respite for the people of the area as they are braving huge power curtailments due to inadequate infrastructure available for power distribution,” another local resident said.
The locals requested the authorities to complete the project at an earliest so that they can experience some respite.
On contacting Executive Engineer PDD division Awantipora, Er Altaf Ahmad, he said that despite all hindrances more than 75 percent project is complete.
“Hopefully the works on the receiving station will be completed till March next year,” he added.
