Say their life has turned miserable

Shopian: The residents of Zainapora belt in south Kashmir’s Shopian district are up in arms against the Power Development Department alleging that dozens of villages in the area are witnessing unscheduled power cuts.

The PDD is resorting to frequent power cuts in these areas instead of ensuring regular power supply due to which locals are facing lot of problems.
“We are placed too far from the Grid station Lassipora, that is why we become victims of unscheduled power supply,” said Sameer Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that a receiving station was sanctioned for the area few years back but the work on the project did not materialize and the residents of the area continue to suffer in chilling winter.
“We have approached the higher ups several times but nothing was done to mitigate our woes,” another resident said.
On contacting concerned AEE PDD Aijaz Ahmad, he said that the locality is critically overloaded and as a result the residents are facing power cuts.
He said that capacity of grid station at Lassipora is being increased after that the area will get scheduled power supply.
He requested people to cooperate and not indulge in misuse of power so that power supply is provided as per the announced schedule.
