Plantation Drive held at Manasbal hillock

'50 lac plants shall be planted by ending March 2021 across Kashmir’: CCF

GANDERBAL: In the ongoing Green J&K drive, a mega Plantation drive was held at Manasbal hillock in Sindh Forest Division, Ganderbal.
The drive was held by the Forest Department in coordination with J&K Mountaineering and Hiking club in order to involve the local youth in the ongoing Green J&K Drive. Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir, Farooq Gillani, Director Industries Kashmir Mahmood Shah who is also the president JKMHC, Conservator of Forests Srinagar Circle Zubair Shah, DFO Sindh Ganderbal Ovais Mir, Vice- President J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club Muazam Bakshi, Nazir Be nazir NGO member, Forest Officers and members of the Mountaineering and Hiking Club participated in the plantation drive.
During the drive around 1000 plants of indigenous species of Kail, Deodar, Betula, Maple and other broad leaved were planted on the degraded hillock area in Compartment nymber 1 Manasbal.
Chief Conservator of Forests Kashmir on the occasion said that the winter plantation is being carried out in all the districts of Kashmir region and about 50 lac plants shall be planted by ending March 2021. Besides, various stake holders’ institutions, schools, Government Departments and youth association are involved in the plantation drive.
He also informed that the Director Industries Kashmir has been requested to get the Industrial areas planted during the ongoing plantation drive for which plants and all technical support shall be provided by the Forest Department. Director Industries while speaking at the event said that with the modern pace of development it becomes imperative to show our commitment towards the environment.
He apprised that tree plantation is the most effective way to mitigate pollution and every Industrial estate in the valley will be involved in it. Vice-President of J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club assured that hillock shall be maintained voluntarily by the youth and all the members of Mountaineering and Hiking club.
