Petrol Bomb ‘attack’ on poll meet ‘averted’ in Kupwara

Kupwara: Workers of an Independent candidate, contesting DDC elections from block Wavoora in Lolab, claimed to have ‘averted a petrol bomb attack’ by activists of a rival candidate during a workers meet of the former on Tuesday afternoon.
The workers in their complaint to police have maintained that two activists of an opponent candidate appeared during a workers meet being addressed by Wasim Majnoon Mir, who is contesting on PAGD mandate, at Kawari, Lolab area in the district.
“Upon suspicion the persons were frisked during which two petrol bombs from the duo were recovered”, the workers have maintained.
The duo identified as Faisal Ahmad son of Ghulam Rasool Mir belonging to Sever and another as Faisal Ahmad son of Abdul Gaffar Mir from Haden was handed over to police.
Meanwhile, it has been learnt that one of the accused is son of a local Sarpanch.
When contacted SSP Kupwara Shriram Ambarkar Dinkar said that police has recovered two petrol-filled bottles from the duo adding that “However nothing can be said with certainty as to whether the duo had come to attack the candidate or not.”
“Both of them have been arrested and due investigations taken up”, the top officer said.
Notably, Wavoora block constituency is scheduled to witness elections on December 19. (GNS)
