Srinagar- Leh road to open for traffic today
Srinagar, Dec 14: The 430 km Srinagar- Sonamarg- Leh road closed for over a week is likely to be thrown open for vehicular traffic today, a BRO spokesman said here.
The project Beacon of Border Roads Organization is putting up all its efforts to clear the road off the snow by pressing additional men and equipment at 11500 feet at Zojila top. The area witnessed a heavy spell of snow fall over the past five days strapping the communication link with Ladakh, the spokesman said.
An official of Project Beacon said that the snow clearance teams are fighting the nature as cold biting winds brings along snow storms at this altitude hampering the snow clearance operation.
“Despite all the odds we are expecting to open the highway today provided all goes well,” the BRO official said.
