Anantnag: The residents of Anantnag are up in arms against the Power Development Department alleging frequent power cuts during the winter months.
The locals allege that with the onset of the winter the villages are witnessing unscheduled power cuts and that too for long hours.
The locals of Ara Koshipora and its adjacent villages took to the streets and staged a protest against the PDD on Saturday.
The residents of areas including Palpora, Ara Koshipora Damhaal Hakoora and its adjacent areas are facing problems due to the unscheduled power cuts that according to them have increased during the last one month.
“Instead of ensuring regular power supply, the Power Development Department is resorting to frequent cuts in these areas,” said a protestor.
“We spend evenings in complete darkness, due to frequent power cuts,” he said adding, that the unscheduled curtailments are hampering the studies of our children who are preparing for different examinations.
The locals said that a receiving station was sanctioned in the area but work on the project is going on at a snail’s pace.
“We have approached the higher authorities but nothing was done to address our concerns and problems,” the locals said.
The residents have appealed the District Administration Anantnag to complete the work at the receiving station at an earliest so that the people get rid of the frequent power cuts.
On contacting concerned Executive Engineer (PDD) Fayaz Ahmad, he said that they would ensure power supply as per the schedule, however, due to the overloading of some feeders and system constraints, the residents are facing unscheduled cuts.
“We urge the people to cooperate and not indulge in misuse of power by using high-voltage electronic devices including heaters and boilers during peak hours so that power supply is provided as per the schedule,” he said.
