DDC election: Ganderbal district to go to polls today

93 candidates in fray for DDC, panchayat by-polls

GANDERBAL: As many as 93 candidates are in the fray for phase-I of the District Development Council (DDC) and panchayat by-polls in Ganderbal district.
The polling for the Phase-I is being held today for Gund-A and Gund-B DDC constituencies and vacant seats of Panch and Sarpanchs respectively.
An official said that as many as 93 candidates are in the fray for the phase-I of the DDC and Panchayat by- polls for which voting would be held today on November 28.
He said, in the phase-I, the twin DDC constituencies including Gund-A and Gund-B would be going for polls. The official said that Gund-A was an ST (Woman) reserved seat while Gund-B an ST (General) reserved seat.
“A total of 93 candidates are in the fray for phase-I of the DDC polls and by-election for the vacant Sarpanch and Panch seats in Gund-A and Gund-B of Ganderbal.
Deputy Election Officer, Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal said that 93 nominations include 10 for DDC, 21 for Sarpanch and 62 for Panch seats.
He said that the voting for this phase would be held today November 28, 2020 from 7 AM till 2PM and counting for Panch and Sarpanch votes will be held on the same day however counting of DDC votes will be held on 22 December.
Meanwhile Under the supervision of District Panchayat Election Officer, Ganderbal, Shafqat Iqbal, the polling parties for District Development Council (DDC) and Panchayat bye-elections for Phase-I were dispatched to their polling stations along with election material and Ballot Boxes amidst heavy security from Boys Higher Secondary School Gund (Distribution cum Collection center for Phase-I) here on Friday.
The DEO informed that a total of 7 ROs and 23 AROs for 127 polling stations in 21 Panchayats and two DDC constituencies of the Block Gund have been appointed for the successful conduct of the election process.
He emphasized upon all stakeholders to evolve better coordination on the polling day to ensure effective polling and to follow Election Commission’s guidelines in letter and spirit.
He further entrusted upon the Polling and other officers designated with the election duty to work with utmost dedication and devotion for successful completion of polls.
Pertinently, all essential facilities at polling stations, transportation arrangements, availability of Sanitizer, Masks and Gloves are already put in place by the district administration for the smooth conduct of elections in the district.
SSP Ganderbal, Khalil Poswal, ADC Ganderbal, Farooq Ahmad Baba, Election Observer for DDC and Panchayat Bye-Election, Mukhtar Ahmad Choudhary, SDM Kangan, concerned ROs, AROs, Nodal Officers and other concerned officers were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir government has declared public holiday in the respective gram panchayats/municipal bodies on day of polls.
According to an order issued by the GAD which reads as “ It is hereby ordered that public holiday shall be observed in the respective gram panchayats, municipal bodies on the day of poll, on account of elections to District Development Councils and Panchayat /Municipal bodies bye- elections 2020.”
