16 years on, water supply scheme in Tral village yet to be functional

Pulwama: Even after a lapse of over 16 years, a water supply scheme in Nowdal Tral village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is yet to be made functional.
Locals said that the the water supply scheme was started in Nowdal village in year 2004 with an aim to provide potable drinking water to Dadsara and Nowdal village. The cost of the project was estimated around 20 lakh rupees, however, the scheme is yet to become functional.
They said that the tank is turning into dilapidated state day by day, but no step is being taken to make the scheme functional so that the locals could have access to better drinking water.
“We are forced to drink contaminated water due to which most of the residents in our area suffer from water borne diseases,” said Naseer Ahmad, a local resident.
Despite being a very large village in whole Tral Sub division, authorities have neglected this village, he added.
“We have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail,” the locals said, while requesting authorities to take up thye issue and get the scheme functional at an earliest.
On contacting executive engineer PHE division Awantipora, Reyaz Ahmad, he said that the matter has been brought into his notice and investigation in this regard is going is.
He assured that the area will get potable drinking water soon.
