Sports stadium in Tral craves for attention

The facility needs uplift, say locals

Pulwama: On the one hand the administration promises all sort of facilities for sports persons in Kashmir valley but on the other the existing sports facilities are ignored by the administration.
Take for an example the sports stadium in Midoora Village of Tral sub division in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district which is lying in a dilapidated condition and authorities have failed to issue orders for repairing it.
Locals said that playground was constructed by Rural development department some years back however, it’s condition is very bad and the local sports lovers are not able to use the stadium.
From last few months, stadium has been overrun by weeds, thorns and cow dung as the cattle let loose by locals take shelter here, a local sports lover, Mehrajuddin Ahmad said.
Zameer Ahmad, a local cricket player said that they are forced to play in grounds of nearby areas as this playground has been left abandoned.
He said that they have brought this issue into the notice of concerned authorities several times but to no avail.
The locals requested concerned department to look into the issue and repair it on priority basis so that local youth can get engaged in sports activities once again.
On contacting concerned Block development officer Primrose Bashir, he said that it is the duty of locals as well to take care of their amenities and avoid throwing cow dung and other material in it.
He said that during the next financial year, it shall be restored so that youth can get involved in sports activities by engaging in various sports activity.
