Anantnag: The government Sub District Hospital(SDH) Dooru which was shifted to new building some four years back continues to function without specialists.
Locals from different areas of Dooru belt said that they were happy that they don’t need to visit district hospital as a model hospital was started here however, the model hospital exists on paper only as no specialist has been posted in the healthcare facility.
They said surgeries and caesarean are being conducted only twice in a week as the anesthetist remains available only for two days in a week.
For five days, patients are being referred to Maternity and Children hospital Anantnag, adding more problems to the hospital as the hospital is already facing problems due to space crunch, they said.
Sources within the hospital said that a BUMS doctor remains available at the OPD and he even prescribes medicines to orthopedic patients and other patients.
They added that there is a CT scan available at the hospital, however, the radiologist remains available only once there and in remaining days, such investigations are being carried out by the medical officer and others.
“This is sheer violation as the staff is not authorized to operate such equipments without any technical expertise,” the source added.
He added that despite being a model hospital, there is no ENT specialist and ophthalmologists.
The hospital has to cater to a very vast area but there is only one pediatrician, he said, while adding that a permanent anesthetist needs to be posted at the hospital.
On contacting Chief Medical officer Anantnag Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, he said that he has already written to higher ups about the immediate need of an orthopedician, a radiologist and an anesthetist.
“We will once again send a reminder to them so that these specialists will be available at the hospital, so that patients won’t suffer anymore,” he said, adding that ENT Specialist and ophthalmologist posts are yet to be sanctioned for the hospital.
