GANDERBAL: The solar lights installed by the Science and Technology Department in Block Kangan and Gund around Mosques and Eid Gahs have become defunct few days after their installation.
People of Gagangir and Kangan area said that most of the solar lights installed around mosques and Eid Gahs in Kangan and Gund Blocks a few days ago have become useless.
BDC Chairman Block Gund, Molvi Muhammad Rafiq said that he had also received complaints that the lights installed in several areas of the block have become useless after a few days after which he took up the matter with the contractor.
“The contractor assured that he would repair these useless lights today. He said that a total of 105 lights are to be installed in his block out of which 80 have been installed so far”, he said.
Meanwhile, BDC Chairman Kangan Mohammad Yousuf said that 160 lights have been installed in his block and he has also receive complaints that in many places they have become useless after a few days.
He said that he also brought this to the notice of the contractor and said that these useless lights will be repaired today.
Contractor Muzaffar Ahmed said that these lights are being installed by Science and Technology Department and the cost of one light is Rs. 22000. So far 950 lights have to be installed in Ganderbal district. He said that if some of the lights in the area are out of order, they will be repaired today.
He further said that due to low temperature in Gund and Kangan areas, if some lights have become useless, they will be repaired.
“These lights are under warranty for five years and if they turn defective we will fix them”, he added.
