Shopkeepers staged protest after burglars decamp with goods in Sopore

Sopore, Nov 17: Protesting increased cases of burglary shopkeepers in Sopore town staged a protest demanding end to the menace of burglaries, reports said Tuesday.

On Tuesday various shops were looted and many others were attempted by burglars during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

According to reports burglars looted grocery, clothes, and ready-made garment shops of Khursheed Ahmad Bhat, Azad Ahmad Mir, Fayaz Ahmad Zaki, Naseer Ahmad Zaki, Bashir Ahmad Sofi, Manzoor Ahmad Ganaie, and Ghulam Muhammad Sofi at Shah Faisal Market Sopore and decamped with cash and valuables worth lakhs.

After the incident scores of shopkeepers assembled at Shah Faisal Market and staged a protest against the rising burglary incidents in Sopore town. The protesters blocked the Sopore-Nowpora Road for several hours.

 A police official said that some cash amount and items were looted in few shops and attempts were made by the burglars to loot other shops as well.

He said that burglars ran away from the spot after they saw our night patrolling party. He added that police has taken cognizance of the incident and further investigation has been taken up.

Meanwhile Sopore, Economic Alliance President, Haji Muhammad Ashraf Ganaie urged the administration and police to check these incidents and book the culprits under law.
