Anantnag: Residents of different areas in Kokernag area of Anantnag district are facing immense hardships in absence of a concrete bridge over Nallah e Gawran.
Residents of Iqbal Pora, Khreeti and its adjacent area said that in absence of concrete bridge they have been suffering since decades but no attention is being given towards the demand.
The locals have themselves raised a wooden bridge to walk over to the other side, but every year this makeshift bridge collapses several times due to the flow of water in the said Nallah.
“The absence of bridge poses grave problems in case we have to shift critical medical emergency like a pregnant women, old aged patients and other critical patients,” said Mukhtar Ahmad, a local resident.
He said that the authorities have ignored us despite many representations made seeking construction of a bridge.
Hundreds of households have been suffering from decades in absence of bridge and various leaders during the past regimes visited the site and assured help. But in the end, no prom ise was ever kept, the locals rued.
Locals said times and again they have brought the issue into the notice of concerned authorities but to no avail.
They once again appealed authorities to address their problem at the earliest, so that they can heave a sigh of relief.
On contacting executive engineer R&B division Vailoo Mehraj Ahmad, he said that higher ups have been informed already in this regard.
“Once we will get a nod along with the funds, work will be started on the bridge,” he said.
