LMD penalises LPG home delivery boy

SRINAGAR: The field executives of Legal Metrology Department (LMD) under the supervision of Joint Controller Friday conducted surprise inspection of different markets and intercepted home delivery vans to check weighment of the cooking gas cylinders.
During the inspection, the weighment of the cooking gas cylinders was conducted on the standard digital scale in presence of the public present there, and was found within the permissible limits however a delivery boy was penalized for not conducting weight-check of refill cylinders before delivering it to the customer.
The inspection was carried out after several complaints were received by the department regarding supply of under-weight refill cooking gas cylinders to consumers by home delivery boys.
Meanwhile, for public information it has been given out that the net weight of cooking gas in the cylinder is 14.2 kg and the tare-weight of the cylinder varies from 15 to 18 kg. The rate of refill cylinder in district Srinagar is Rs. 710/- inclusive of subsidy.
It is pertinent to mention that the delivery-boy of a cooking gas cylinder is supposed to conduct a weight check, leak-check of the cylinder before delivering it to the consumer. Moreover, he should issue cash-voucher to the consumer carrying the price of the gas.
