Anantnag: Even as the government claims to help educated youth to setup industrial units for seeking employment, the new industrial Estate in Qazigund located in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district is yet to become functional.
The Estate was sanctioned by then Chief Minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed in 2004 and accordingly land was demarcated for around 133 units, however, 15 years have passed since then but the estate is yet to BE MADE functional.
The entrepreneurs said that it took THEM around 14 years to GET land allotments and later we were asked to construct walls around the demarcated land, however, order was withdrawn just after one week.
“We have been operating from tin sheds and rented accommodations and we were expecting that very soon we will get some space where we could establish our units permanently,” said one of the land allotee.
Every time we are being assured that within two or three months, the estate will be made functional, however on ground nothing changes, he said.
Notably, the unit holders have once again requested the higher ups to look into the matter and ensure that the industrial estate is made functional.
Despite repeated calls Managing Director SICOP wasn’t available for his comments on the issue.
