GANDERBAL: The Forest Department and Forest Protection Force seized 70 cubic feet of cedar timber during a joint operation in Najwun Kangan area forest in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
Reports said that the Forest Department and Forest Protection Force confiscated 70 cubic feet of green cedar Timber from compartment No. 3 of Najwun Kangan in Akhal Sindh Block and took it into their custody.
Notably, this is the third such incident within a week in Sindh Range Kangan for which the department has already formed a committee to investigate it.
Civil society groups say looting of green gold continues unabated in Ganderbal and that the forest department has so far failed to catch smugglers. They have demanded that the Chief Conservator of Forests must form a team to assess the damage to the forests.
