Yateem Foundation organizes two day volunteer’s workshop
Srinagar: The speakers at JKYF’s two day Regional Level volunteers’ workshop on “Social Service: Contemporary Challenges & Way Forward” at BAITUL HILAL, Chawalgam in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district laid emphasis on basic understanding of issues and challenges confronting underprivileged, poor, resource less and disadvantaged sections of people in Jammu & Kashmir.
The speakers described humility, sincerity, selflessness, piety, good character, missionary zeal and zest as inalienable elements of social service volunteerism.
The two day regional level volunteers’ workshop was part of JKYF’s continuing efforts to sensitize the volunteers on ground about various issues & challenges related to voluntary social service in Jammu & Kashmir.
In view of COVID 19 pandemic, all the participants followed basic SOPs including wearing of face masks, maintaining adequate physical distancing and ensuring thorough hand washing and proper sanitization of the venue as well.
Addressing about 120 senior volunteers from various parts of Kashmir region, Chief Guest Dr Mushtaq Ahmad Ganai, Director Iqbal Institute of Culture and Philosophy, Kashmir University appreciated the sincerity of volunteers and urged them to be proactive in identifying and reaching out to needy and deserving people in their respective areas.
Dr Ganai underscored the need for skill development among the students of “Baitul Hilal” across J&K and also other students benefitted under various welfare programmes of JKYF.
Talking on “Volunteerism in the light of Quran”, Chairman JKYF Mohammad Ahsan Rather advised volunteers to simultaneously take care of the rights and duties towards their parents, wives, children and relatives without any fail.
Senior volunteer Nissar ul Hassan spoke on the theme “Characteristics of a Volunteer” while invoking the sayings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) enjoined upon the volunteers to work sincerely for mitigating the sufferings of the destitute to earn the blessings of the Allah (SWT) in this life and the Hereafter. He strongly advised the volunteers to desist from taking any advantage directly or indirectly from the beneficiaries.
Speaking on the “Role of Media in Social Service”, Programme Executive Press & PR, JKYF Javaid Jawad said that media is the most potent tool to sensitise the common people about the importance of social service. He cautioned the volunteers against misuse of social media platforms which could prove detrimental for the social cause. Citing some recent cases of misuse of social and digital media, Jawad urged the volunteers not to share or forward any information without multiple cross checking on social media platforms.
Former JKYF Chairman Mohammad Rafiq Lone in his concluding remarks urged volunteers to take forward the noble cause with missionary zeal and zest while following the organisational discipline strictly. He informed that an amount of Rs 2.25 Crores approx was expended on various welfare programmes during F.Y. 2019-20 benefitting approximately 3250 families. Similarly, an amount of Rs 1.25 Crore approx. was spent on relief activities benefitting approximately 7000 (Seven Thousand) families during COVID 19 pandemic from March to September 2020.
Earlier, Ex General Secretary Mohammad Yaqoob Reshi talked about the aims, objectives and the Constitution of the Organisation.
District Representatives of various districts of Kashmir region including Mohammad Iqbal Beig (Srinagar), Mohammad Amin Bhat (Pulwama) Mohammad Anwar Malik ( Bandipora), Shabir Ahmad Malik (Budgam), Javaid Ahmad Shah (Anantnag), Abdul Majeed Laway (Kulgam), Gh Hassan Bhat (Shopian), Abdul Rahim (Kupwara) Mushtaq Ahmad Shahmiri (Ganderbal) and Khursheed Ahmad Bhat (Baramulla) shared their experiences, activities and achievements in terms of donor line and beneficiaries besides put forth their suggestions for further improvement in the working of JKYF.
Incharge “Baitul Hilal”, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar Bashir Ahmad Bhat and some other volunteers shared their stories about their association with JKYF to pursue the cause of the orphans, widows and destitute.
Volunteers put forth their suggestions and called for strengthening the great humanitarian cause while protecting the movable & immovable assets of JKYF for being a public institution.
Central Executive Committee (CEC) Member from Kulgam district Abdul Majeed Laway presented vote of thanks and thanked the guests and the volunteers for their participation in the workshop.
A team of volunteers headed by senior volunteer Mohammad Sadullah Bhat alongwith Principal “Al Hilal Educationl Institute”, Chawalgam Kulgam Rafiq Ahmad and a team of teachers & employees of “Baitul Hilal” Kulgam worked tirelessly to ensure requisite arrangements for the event and adequate facilities for the participating volunteers.
