Residents stage protest against water shortage

Sopore: Scores of residents including women from Gousia colony Noorbagh in Sopore area of north Kashmir took to streets on Monday and staged a protest against Jal Shakti department for failing to provide them regular water supply.
Reports said that the protesters staged a sit-in and blocked the road at Iqbal market outside Jal shakti department here in Sopore which affected the traffic movement for several hours.
The protesters told that they are facing immense hardships as the residents are facing water shortage since last many years and authorities hardly bother to look into their grievance.
They said that the area is worst affected one and no effort is being spared by the local administration to resolve this crisis.
Muzamil, a local resident said that they have approached Jal Shakti department many times but nothing has been done on ground.
He said the locals are forced to consume contaminated water which is affecting their health.
