Pulwama: The acute shortage of staff at Block Development Office at Lassipora is hampering work and is giving tough time to locals and contractors, visitors to the office alleged.
Sources said that the block office is working without a Block Development Officer and other staff members being deputed there permanently.
“From last two years, there is no permanent Incharge officer as the current BDO who has been given additional charge has to look after two more blocks. This means that the official gets very little or no time to attend to the official work that lies pending here,” Tariq Ahmad, a contractor by profession said.
He said that besides, there is no Programme officer, junior assistant, orderly and other staff deputed here due to which files are taking time to get complete and cleared.
“We have taking up this issue with the higher ups several times, but no attention was being given towards our genuine demands,” said Zahid Ahmad, a local resident.
He further added that if authorities failed to take cognizance of the issue, they will be forced to take to streets so that their demand is fulfilled.
Contractors and the local residents also requested commissioner secretary RDD and Director RDD to look into the matter so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
On contacting Assistant Development Commissioner, Pulwama Hilal Ahmad, he said that the administration has already taken up this issue with the concerned authorities in Srinagar.
“Hopefully, the office will get staff very soon,” he said.
