Kangan residents protest against water scarcity

GANDERBAL: The residents of Checki Prang area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Tuesday held a strong protest demonstration against the water scarcity in their area and blocked the traffic on busy Srinagar-Leh highway.
Reports said that large number of people carrying buckets assembled near Dumping Park Kangan and blocked the traffic for an hour.
They were raising slogans against the Jal-Shakti department for failing to provide uninterrupted water supply to their area.
“We are without potable water from last twenty days and are forced to drink contaminated water,” a lady protester said, adding that there are apprehensions of outbreak of water borne diseases.
She said that they request administration to look into it and provide them water supply.
Later SHO, Police Station Kangan, Aftab Ahmed, reached the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring them that their problem will be taken up with the concerned authorities for redressal.
