Police foils protest march by SRTC employees

Srinagar: Scores of SRTC employees tried to match towards the Governor’s office to present a memorandum of their demands, reports said Thursday.
Earlier hundreds of employees of SRTC had assembled in Sheri-Kashmir Park and were demanding the release of their pending salaries. Notably, the employees have been denied their salaries since the past four months now.
The protesting employees were also demanding the implementation of 7th Pay Commission and retirement benefits for the employees who have retired from their services.
The protesting employees were accompanied by, Wajhat Durrani President SRTC Employees Union.
“We had planned a peaceful march to Lt Governor’s office to present the memorandum but police did not allow us and used water cannons and arrested some of our members. Later they took us to Governor’s office where we presented the memorandum,” Durrani said.
“Our salaries are pending from past 4 months. There are people who have retired from their services but they have not received the retirement benefits yet, consolidated drivers whose services are due after the continuous service of first eight years, are yet to get regularized, though they are in services now from the past ten years. Similarly under SRO 43, people who have lost their lives in the line of duty their kins have not been provided the jobs yet,” said Wajahat Durrani. (KNT)
