Srinagar: Police Wednesday foiled the bid of Casual Labourers to march towards Raj Bhavan based LG’s office, witnesses said.
Hundreds of Casual Labourers from different departments assembled at Sher-i-Kashmir Park Srinagar and staged a massive protest and sloganeering in favour of their ‘regularization’ and other demands.
They raised slogans like, “we want Justice and regularize our services”. The protesting employees were led by Sajad Ahmad Parray.
As soon as protesting Casual Labourers tried to come out of the Park and started marching towards main road, police used water cannons and mild lathi charge to disperse them. Some of them were detained by police who were later on released.
Casual Daily wagers Forum President, Sajaad Parray said that: “we had planned Raj Bhawan Gheroa today but Police was deployed outside the Park. Police cane charged us and some of the protesting employees’ sustained injuries while others were detained.”
“We have decided to go for 48 hours strike from Oct 26. This will cause inconvenience to common masses but we have no other option. We demand regularization and implementation of ‘Minimum Wages Act,’ he said. (KNT)
