ST students allege delay in scholarship payments

Srinagar: Students belonging to the scheduled tribe category in Jammu and Kashmir have been left in lurch since last one year as the tribal affairs department has not released scholarships of enrolled students.
Students from different areas of JK said that tribal affairs department is not releasing the scholarship fund of ST students, which is making it difficult for them to meet their educational expenses.
Showkat Shabir, a student activist from Keller Shopian said that due to unknown reasons tribal affairs department has withheld the scholarship of ST students.
Since last October, the department hasn’t released scholarships of all pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, he said, adding that due to covid-19 scholarships were disbursed among other students quite early however, only ST students have been kept waiting.
The students requested the authorities to look into the issue at an earliest.
“We are facing lot of difficulties owing to non-payment of our scholarship amount and we are not able to meet our educational expenses,” the students added.
Director Tribal Affairs J&K, Salim Malik when contacted said that the department had already uploaded the details of scholarship on NSP.
He said that the Union government will release the funds and all students will get scholarship amount through online mode.
He added that they will get scholarships as soon as government of India will push back the details of each candidate which are adhar linked.
