Pulwama: Even after elapsing of around 15 years, residents of Andrusoo village in Pampore area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district await for completion of water supply scheme (WSS).
Reports said that local residents are up in arms against the concerned department for failing to ensure uninterrupted drinking water facility to the area.
They said that two villages, Andrusoo and Gondibal are without drinking water supply for last 15 years due to which locals are facing immense problems.
Mohammad Younis, a local resident said that in 2005 water supply scheme for twin villages was sanctioned and work was started on it, however, it was left midway after completion of around 80 percent of the work.
“Since then we have been waiting that the scheme will be made operational, however, 15 years have passed but authorities are yet to resume work on it,” he said.
Manzoor Ahmad, another local resident said that they are forced to drink contaminated water as the WSS has been kept incomplete.
He said that upper reaches of the area are getting portable drinking water at their doorsteps, however, Andrusoo and Gondibal which are just 2-3 kms far from Pampore town are yet to get this basic facility.
Locals said that they had requested higher ups several times in this regard but their repeated requests have fallen on deaf ears.
They once again requested the officials to look into the matter and make the scheme functional at an earliest.
On contacting concerned executive engineer PHE division Awantipora Riyaz Ahmad, he said it was due to low quality of water at Andrusoo that the department shifted the scheme to Gondibal and later it got delayed due to shortage of funds.
He added that work on this scheme will resume soon and in next 2-3 months, the scheme will be made operational.
