Tral village faces water shortage

Pulwama: Residents of Saimoh village in Tral belt of Pulwama district are facing acute shortage of drinking water as the water supply scheme in the area caters to only half of the total population of the village.
According to the locals, they have been facing water crisis since last several years now forcing the residents to consume contaminated water leading to many ailments among them.
They added that they complained about their problem several times but nothing went in our favour, adding that the women folk has to fetch water for drinking, cooking and other purposes from the nearby villages.
Mohammad Sadiq, a local resident said that water borne diseases can break out any time in the area as the locals are forced to drink contaminated water from the local streams and ponds.
He added that the locals met the higher officials so many times in this regard but their repeated promises have proved hoax on ground.
The locals once again requested higher ups to look into the matter and provide drinking water facility to the area so that the people can heave a sigh of relief.
Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti Awantipira Riyaz Ahmad, when contacted said the department has prepared a proposal for a water supply scheme for the village.
He said very soon work on the scheme will be started and issue will be solved once for all.
