The fight against the deadly pandemic Covid-19 has been witnessing several lacunas. Not only has the government found itself gasping for solutions but the decision that have been taken and implemented to contain the spread of the disease have been way too short of the actual requirement.
When the hospitals started to get overcrowded owing to steep hike in the number of cases across Jammu and Kashmir various new measures were announced to reduce the rush of patients in the hospitals. Besides, various other measures like resorting to unlocking in various cities and towns was also implemented without caring for the actual requirement and need.
The administration also acted with some bias as well as some regions were allowed free movement and some were truncated beyond the actual need. People in Jammu region were allowed free movement while as Kashmir region was deprived of any such ease.
Since all these measures lacked scientific logic and understanding, the situation took a turn for the worse and Jammu emerged as a new hotspot for the virus with cases swelling with every passing day since the past two weeks now.
The situation is getting so worse that now a central team of officials is visiting the region to ascertain the actual causes besides such a spike and analyze the actual containment measures.
The health ministry has deputed a high-level Central team to the district to assist in strengthening containment, surveillance, testing and efficient clinical management of positive cases.
Jammu has so far reported close to ten thousand cases and has nearly seven thousand active cases. The total cases one week ago in the region were a mere 6,878.
Jammu has been reporting doubling time of 15.4 days, recovery rate of 33.9 per cent and case fatality rate of 1.24 per cent. These figures have been quite disturbing as the recovery rate has been depicted quite low compared to the other regions of the UT. Even Ladakh has a higher recover rate compared to Jammu.
The high level team had visited the Kashmir valley as well but the arrival and the suggestions that were provided hardly showed and remarkable change on the ground.
These teams interacted with authorities and got a first hand understanding of the challenges and issues being faced by them so as to strengthen their ongoing activities and remove bottlenecks.
But the move has made little difference in Kashmir valley as well as the number of cases continue to show an upward trend with each passing day. The only silver lining however, is the recovery rate being much better in Kashmir that has restricted the number of fatalities and reporting of chronic cases.
