Pulwama: Contractual Faculty Association at IUST on Monday demanded extension of their contracts till the covid-19 pandemic is over.
A member of the association said that in February their engagement order was issued till ending July, 2020, and in first week of August we were re-engaged till ending September (with a gap of three days), however on the other hand the contract of other TEQIP contractual has been already extended till ending March 2021 by MHRD.
He said that amid the Covid-19, it is not possible to get hired by other institutes or companies, so we demand that our contract is also extended till ending March.
“We mostly belong to poor families and if our contracts won’t be extended, it will directly affect our families,” said another member, adding that on humanitarian ground their contract must be extended like MHRD has extended for central contractuals.
He added that they have been working in the IUST from last seven years and on humanitarian ground it looks unacceptable to restrict the contract of the candidates in this odd time who have been serving the Institute for such a long time.
Contractual Association requested the Lt. Governor and Vice Chancellor IUST to look into the matter and announce extension in the service contract at least till ending March so as to halt the suffering of the contractual faculty.
