Srinagar: Hundreds of people affiliated with ‘The Self Help Group of Engineers’ Monday staged protest outside Civil Secretariat Srinagar.
The protest was held under the banner of ‘The Self Help Group of Engineers Association’.
The protest was held against the abolishing of Self Help Group of Engineers Scheme while the protesters demanded immediate roll back of the decision and reserve of their 30 percent quota of contract work.
Eyewitnesses said that over a hundred engineers assembled outside Civil Secretariat holding placards and banners in their hands which read “Reserve our 30% quota”. “Revoke G.A.D order”, “Save our future” and “We want Justice”.
The protesters told that the government had launched Self Help Group scheme in the year 2003 for unemployed engineers and proper guidelines were issued in the year 2017. But sometime back GAD department issued an order to abolish this scheme which is grave injustice with us.
“We are unemployed engineers who were working under this scheme and were also earning their livelihood from it, but we don’t know why this scheme was abolished,” the protesters said adding and demanded the immediate rollback of Government order NO. 752-JK (GAD) of 2020 Clause – 2(b) dated 10th August last month.
