Pakistani troops shell three sectors in Poonch

Srinagar: An army soldier was killed and two others were injured as India and Pakistan troops traded fire along the Line of Control (LoC) at Naugam sector in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Official sources said that the Pakistani army targeted an army posts in Naugam sector in which one soldier identified as Bopender Singh was killed while as two others, Lance Naik Venkatesh and Sepoy Shajal were injured.
The duo has been referred to army’s 92 Base hospital in Srinagar, a defence spokesman said late evening.
He said Indian army gave a “befitting” reply to ceasefire violation by the Pakistani army.
Meanwhile, Pakistani troops engaged in firing and intense mortar shelling in three sectors along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district on Saturday in violation of a ceasefire agreement, a defence spokesman said.
The firing and shelling from across the border in Shahpur, Kirni and Degwar sectors started around 9.15 am.
Indian Army personnel guarding the LoC gave a strong and befitting response to the cross-border fire, the spokesman said.
He said the exchange of fire was going on when last reports were received.
There was no report of any casualty on the Indian side, the spokesman said. (with PTI inputs)
