Gunfight starts in Pulwama village, hideouts busted in Tral

Pulwama, Sep 04: A gunfight broke out between militants and security forces in Babhara area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.

 This is the second encounter since morning. Earlier, an encounter started at Pattan area of north Kashmir where one unidentified militant was killed and army major besides SoG personnel were injured while the gunfight is still on.

 About Pulwama encounter, an official said that a joint team of Police, army and CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on specific information about the presence of militants in the area.

 He said that as the joint teams of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them which was retaliated, triggering an encounter.

 A senior police officer also confirmed the exchange of fire between forces and militants.

 As per the sources, two to three militants are believed to be trapped in the area.

Meanwhile, government forces busted three militant hideouts of Jaish-e-Muhammad and recovered incriminating material in Tral area of Awantipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Police officials said that on a credible input, a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was launched by Awantipora Police, 42 RR and 180 BN CRPF in Buchoo and Kamla area of Tral.

“During the search in the area by the joint team of forces, three hideouts of JeM were busted. The joint team was able to recover incriminating materials from the hideout. The incriminating material has been taken into police custody for the purpose of investigation,” he said.

Police said that accordingly, a case under FIR number 78 of 2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Tral and investigation into the matter has been initiated —(KNO)
