Irrigation Park Panchpora in Anantnag reflects official apathy

Anantnag: The Irrigation Park at Panchpora in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district has been ignored by the department as no developmental or maintenance works have been carried out in the park.
The park spread over 50 kanals of land in Panchpora in Sangam area of the district is in shambles but authorities are in slumber.
Locals said that park locally known as ‘Baghe e Shoot Park’ in Panchpora area has been left neglected and no attention is being paid by the authorities to repair the park.
They said that park has been encroached by some locals besides that illegally soil has been excavated from the park which has left the park in real mess.
Bashir Ahmad a local said that time and again, the locals have informed the concerned authorities to look into the matter, however, no heed was provided to their repeated requests.
He said some non locals also continue to reside inside the park from many years besides that cow dung and other wastages are kept within the park.
The concerned department has failed to refurbish or maintain this park as a result of which it has become a hub of illegal activities, the locals said.
They requested concerned authorities to look into the matter and repair the park immediately and take action against the encroachers.
Assistant Executive Engineer, Irrigation sub division Bijbehara, when contacted said that they have already served notice to encroachers.
“We have formulated a plan to repair the park and have sent it for approval,” he added.
“Once funds will be made available, work on the park will be started,” he said.
