ASI, 3 militants killed in Panthachowk encounter
Srinagar, August 30: Three militants and an Assistant sub inspector of J&K police were killed in an overnight encounter at Panthachowk in outskirts of Srinagar district.
A senior Police official said that three militants were killed in an overnight encounter, bodies have been recovered with arms and ammunition. However, the identity of the slain militants is yet to be ascertained, he added.
The operation was halted due to darkness late night and with the first ray of light this morning, the operation was resumed, the officer said.
During initial exchange of fire ASI of J&K police identified as Babu Ram was also killed, the official added.
Pertinently, 153 militants have been killed so far this year surpassing the total number of militants killed in year 2019. In 2019 as per official figures 152 militants were killed.
Earlier, three bike-borne militants had attacked a joint team of police and CRPF near Panthachowk in which no damage was done, they said.
Soon after the attack, the fleeing militants were engaged in a gunfight by security forces in a nearby area.(GNS)
