Various other roads closed for traffic

Srinagar: Due to landslide followed by torrential rains, the traffic on strategic Srinagar-Leh Highway was temporarily suspended on Thursday as a precautionary measure.
A traffic police official told ‘Kashmir Vision’ that Srinagar-Leh Highway was temporarily closed on Thursday afternoon as a precautionary measure following landslides at few places due to the heavy rains along the Zojila pass.
He said all types of vehicular movement on the highway was stopped from Sonamarg towards Drass.
“Traffic will be resumed subject to fair weather and road conditions,” the official added.
Meanwhile, the 84-km Bandipora-Gurez road was closed for all sorts of traffic movement on Thursday owing to adverse weather conditions.
An official said that “due to the heavy rainfall the Bandipora-Gurez and Dawar-Tulail road has become slippery and to avoid any untoward incident, all sorts of vehicular movement on the road has been suspended.”
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Owais Ahmad said that keeping in view of heavy rainfall and to avoid any accident, all types of vehicles/public movement are restricted on Dawar-Bandipora road and Dawar-Tulail road.
Earlier, yesterday a Water Supply Scheme got washed away due to flash floods triggered by incessant rainfall in Gurez area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. Besides, theBarnai-Tulai road in Gurez area was also blocked due to the landslide, affecting the vehicular movement in the area. Paddar-Kishtwar, Doda-Bhaderwah roads closed after fresh landslides
Meanwhile, fresh landslides in twin Jammu districts on Thursday forced closure of Paddar-Kishtwar and Doda-Bhaderwah roads.
Officials said that on Thursday morning, amid rainfall, a portion of roadside land in Drudu caved in resulting in the closure of road between Doda district headquarter and Bhaderwah Sub Division headquarter.
“The vehicular movement is suspended and efforts are being made to restore the road,” officials said.
They added that the Paddar—Kishtwar road in Kishtwar district of Chenab Valley was also closed after the landslide occurred at Naigar area.
“Landslide occurred at Naigar near Padiyarna, resulting in closure of the road,” officials said.
Meanwhile, the Srinagar-Jammu highway continued to remain closed for the third consecutive day due to shooting stones at multiple places.
