Locals demand immediate mecadamisation, widening

Sopore: The Watlab-Tujar Sharief road famously known as Chetkak road in Zaingeer area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district is in dilapidated condition. The commuters say that travel on the road is proving to be highly inconvenient for them as authorities have failed to repair the road.
Local residents said that the 14 km road from Watlab to Tujar Sharief Sopore via Mundji, Dooru and Bomai is in a very bad shape and the road has not been macadamised since the past 30 years.
The dilapidated condition of the road is giving tough time to the local residents as well as to those who happen to travel on the road.
The locals alleged that government has been ignoring this important road since decades.
“This all important road has not been macadamised since three decades now. Though various other roads which are of least importance have been upgraded and maintained,” Haji Nissar Ahmad Ganaie, President, Behbood committee Botingoo Sopore said.
He said that he along with various other locals have several times met the concerned officials and sought repairs and widening of the road.
“No attempt was made to get the road repaired and our requests have fallen on deaf ears. Even three years ago the then CM Mehbooba Mufti visited the area and inaugurate the work on the road but the repair work was stopped soon without any reason,” Ganaie added.
“Apart from being dotted with potholes the road has turns into a water filled patch whenever it rains which makes more difficult to travel or on the road,” Ganaie said.
The locals have now appealed the Lt Guv led administration to come to their rescue.
Meanwhile, when contacted AEE R&B Sub division Sopore, Fayaz Ahmad Kar, said that due to lack of funds the macdamisation and the repairment work were not carried out on the road.
“The lack of funds has not only affected The Chetkak road but many other roads in sub division Sopore have not been repaired,” he said.
He assured that road will be repaired soon on priority basis.
