Under construction KGBV hostel attracts drug addicts

Pulwama: The Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) hostel located at Mugalpora village in Pulwama on which work was started in 2008 has turned into a den for drug addicts.
Locals said that construction work on the building was started in 2008 and was later left mid-way by the constructing authority. However, the construction work was again started in 2018 and the building was almost complete.
“Though the building was almost completed but it failed to bring any relief to the student’s community. Instead the building which was left abandoned has become a headache for the whole society,” the locals of MugalPora alleged.
They said that building is used for illegal activities by some people as the concerned department has failed to complete it besides providing any watch and ward to take care of the building.
“The building has been turned into den of drug addicts which is proving to be a big nuisance for the local residents,” they said.
A local resident and social activist Mudasir Ahamd Dar, said that drug addicts from Pulwama, Pampore and even Srinagar are being seen here while taking drugs and nobody even dares to visit that area.
Dar, said the construction of the building was started almost ten years back and was almost completed in 2018 and has been left without fixing the doors, windows and fencing.
He said that the locals approached to the concerned authorities’ many a times but they always give lame excuses like non-unavailability of funds and lack of staff to take care of the building.
The locals have been demanding that the building be sealed till it is put to use by the concerned department as the vacant building is attracting all sorts of anti-social activities.
The locals have now requested Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and district administration to intervene and complete the building soon and make use of it.
Despite repeated attempts, CEO Pulwama could not be contacted for his version on the story.
