Retired physician among nine die of Covid-19 in JK
442 fresh positive cases also reported
Srinagar: COVID-19 on Monday claimed nine more lives including a retired doctor in Kashmir, taking the death toll due to Novel Coronavirus in Jammu and Kashmir to 559.
Officials said that nine patients who died include an 81-year-old senior retired doctor from Gil Kadal Srinagar, a 53-year-old woman from Panthachowk, a 75-year-old woman from Zakoora Srinagar, an 80-year-old man from Kakapora Pulwama, an 80-year-old woman from Natipora Srinagar, a 32-year-old man from Lassipora Budgam, a 70-year-old man from Chadoora Budgam, a 65-year-old man from Verinag Anantnag and a 75-year-old man from Maqdoom Sahab Hawal.
An official from CD hospital said that an 81-year-old retired senior chest specialist from Gil Kadal who was admitted on 13 August died on Monday. He added that a patient from Pantha Chowk who was admitted on 06 August, a patient from Zakoora who was admitted on 14 August and a patient from Kakapora who was admitted on 14 August, died at CD hospital.
An official from SMHS said that a patient from Natipora who was admitted on 11 August, a patient from Lassipora Budgam who was admitted on 16 August and a patient from Chadoora Budgam who was admitted on 08 August, died on Monday.
An official from SKIMS said that a patient from Verinag Anantnag who was admitted on 04 August and a patient from Makhdoom Sahab Hawal who was admitted on 13 August died on Monday.
With nine more deaths, the death toll in Jammu and Kashmir has reached to 559 including 518 from Kashmir division and 41 from Jammu division.
Meanwhile, 422 fresh covid-19 cases including 55 travelers and 35 security forces personnel were reported today taking the total count inch closer to 29000 mark.
Of these cases which took the overall count to 28892, 81 are from Jammu division and 341 are from Kashmir Valley including 20 from army’s BB Cantt, 14 CRPF and one police.
Giving district-wise breakup of the cases, official sources said that Srinagar reported 48, Baramulla 9, Pulwama 42, Budgam 40,Anantnag 43, Kulgam 15, Shopian 6, Kupwara 46, Bandipora 49, Ganderbal 43, Jammu 40, Rajouri 2, Kathua11, Samba 10, Doda 6, Poonch 1, and Reasi 11.
In Kashmir, Srinagar tops the list with 6960 cases followed by Baramulla with 2438, Pulwama 2095, Budgam 1828, Kulgam 1712, Shopian 1576, Anantnag 1815, Kupwara 1571, Bandipora 1476 and Ganderbal 963.
In Jammu division, Jammu district has 2005 cases, Rajouri 788, Ramban 624, Kathua 674, Udhampur 649, Samba 577, Doda 343, Poonch 329, Reasi 288 and Kishtwar 181.
A number of cases were confirmed at CD and SKIMS Soura diagnostic laboratories.

The Budgam cases include female (64) and male (45) from Humhama Budgam, male (87) from Chadoora Budgam. The Baramulla cases include male (26) from Sopore Baramulla.
The Kupwara cases include female (50) from Halmatpora Kupwara. The Pulwama cases include male (20) from Kakapora Pulwama.
The BB Cantt cases include two males (29, 24) from BB Cantt Srinagar. The CRPF cases include male (38) from 132 Bn Crpf Sanat Nagar Srg, male (28) from 49 Bn Crpf Karan Nagar Srg, male (27) from 28 Bn Crpf Bemina Srg, male (45) from 181 Bn Crpf Nishat Srg, male (40) from 43 Bn Crpf Humhama Srinagar.
