DSW Kashmir launches Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign

SRINAGAR: Directorate of Social Welfare Kashmir Saturday launched “Nasha Mukt Bharat”- Drug free India” campaign initiated by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The campaign is being run in 272 most vulnerable districts of India and 10 districts of Jammu and Kashmir including Poonch, Rajouri, Kishtwar, Doda, Anantnag, Pulwama, Kulgam, Shopian, Budgam and Bandipora have been identified by Narcotics Control Bureau of India as most vulnerable in terms of substance/drug abuse.
Speaking on the occasion, Director General Social Welfare Kashmir, Rukhsana Gani, stressed on the need to have a holistic approach towards addressing the problem of drug addiction in Kashmir Valley as J&K has witnessed a steep rise in the number of substance abuse cases especially in the youth in the past few years. She asked for creating massive awareness through various mass media extension activities targeting Schools, Colleges and Universities besides emphasizing creation of community volunteers and their skill development and capacity building in this regard.
Representatives from various Voluntary Organisations and Civil society besides officers of Social Welfare Department Kashmir and other employees participated in the programme.
